Moore Wins Longines Jockey Award

British reinsman Ryan Moore won the inaugural Longines World’s Best Jockey Award despite a late run from runner-up Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon who won the G1 Japan Cup aboard Epiphaneia (Jpn) (Symboli Kris S {Jpn}) at Tokyo Racecourse in Tokyo, Japan Sunday. Moore had a stellar season and collected five victories from the top 100 Group 1/Grade I races–the Dubai Duty Sheema Classic presented by Longines, the Prix du Jockey Club, the QIPCO Irish Champion S., the Sportingbet Cox Plate and the Emirates Melbourne Cup. He earned 94 points edging out Soumillon, who scored 88 points. Irish jockey Joseph O’Brien took the third spot with 72 points. Moore will be recognized at a gala dinner held during the Longines Hong Kong International Races Dec. 12 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The award is based on performances in the 100 highest-rated Group1 or Grade I races established by the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee from Dec. 1 of the previous year until Nov. 30 of the current year.
