Ready to Act, a debut winner at Saratoga July 22, looked every bit the winner as the favorite in Woodbine's GII Natalma S. Sept. 14 until suddenly veering sharply left and losing rider Rajiv Maragh. She weakened late to be sixth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita next time out Nov. 1. Second last time as the 1-2 chalk in an optional claimer at this course and distance, the gray was supported as the 9-5 chalk for this 2014 debut. Breaking well from her rail draw, Ready to Act raced in a tracking third through opening fractions of :24.81 and :49.31. Steered two-wide to find room rounding the far turn, the gray was lugging to the right in the stretch, but was kept straight with a few right handers from Eclipse winner Javier Castellano to score a narrow victory over Party Now. “She ran really well, but she was lugging in down the lane, so I have more work to do with her,” said winning conditioner Chad Brown. “She's been challenging. She was no problem until she went to Woodbine and ducked from the stick [and lost her rider in the GII Natalma Stakes]. Ever since then, she's been difficult to train and in her races she's been sporadic. She won today. I'm thrilled with it, but obviously we have some work to do with her. She has a lot of talent, that's the good part. So we have something to work with. I'll get her steering situated.” Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
