Although Moyglare Stud's Fiona Craig signed the ticket at 1.7-million gns for Ballymacoll's Kingman (GB) filly out of Justlookdontouch (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) at this year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, she described the bay immediately after as “priceless.”
The filly is a half-sister to stakes winner Abingdon (Street Cry {Ire}) and her second dam is the G1 Yorkshire Oaks winner Hellenic (GB) (Darshaan {GB}), who outdid her own racetrack performance as a broodmare when she produced champions Islington (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and Greek Dance (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) as well as two other stakes winners. Hellenic is also the third dam of G1 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}). (catalogue page).
Craig at the time described the pedigree as one “for the next two to three decades” for Moyglare, and the Haefner family's stud has stuck with that theme in the name chosen for the filly: All Our Tomorrows.
“It was a name Eva [Maria Bucher-Haefner] and I had come up with quite a while ago but we were unsure about what to use it on,” Craig said. “The reason she was purchased and the reason she cost so much was for the future. It's a pedigree you won't be able to get a hold of. All Our Tomorrows, she is for tomorrow. She's also for today, but hopefully in her influence she'll be part of the Haefner family's racing for a long time, in terms of her and all her foals.”
All Our Tomorrows was part of the dispersal of Ballymacoll stud, which wraps up at Tattersalls in about two weeks' time and includes All Our Tomorrows' dam Justlookdontouch, her half-sister Abingdon, and Islington.
“Most of those mares will probably go into private hands and most of them won't appear back on the market again,” Craig said. She said All Our Tomorrows has been doing well at Moyglare since returning from Newmarket.
“She's very good, very straightforward,” Craig said. “She came from Ballymacoll, which is only about eight miles up the road, so to an extent the grass is probably quite similar. She went to Newmarket then came back only eight miles away from where she grew up.”
Moyglare is well known for its deep and successful families, and isn't afraid to add to its broodmare band at public auction when the right opportunity arises. Another instance was two years ago at the Goffs Orby sale when Moyglare purchased Tocco D'Amore (Ire) (Raven's Pass), a daughter of the excellent producer Spirit of Tara (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), for €2.2-million. Now a 'TDN Rising Star', Tocco D'Amore is unbeaten in two starts for Moyglare, including the Listed Finale S. on Nov. 5.
Craig said Bucher-Haefner comes up with most of the names herself, and one amongst them this year is a recycled name from one of the original Moyglare broodmares. Anya Ylina is the name of an Oasis Dream (GB) filly out of Es Que (GB) (Inchinor {GB}), and 42 years ago Bucher-Haefner's father, Moyglare founder Walter Haefner, chose the same name for a half-sister to Lyphard he purchased at Keeneland July in 1975. Anya Ylina was the name of the mother of Haefner's second wife, Sarah. Anya Ylina had been the last prima ballerina in Tsarist Russia.
“Though no relation to Sarah, Eva knew the story, and loved the name, and as it was available again, she decided to bring it back,” said Craig. “That is why, 42 years after first being used at Moyglare, it is being used again. It may just be a story, but it is a lovely name and suits the filly very well.”
Also among the Moyglare 2-year-old crop for next year will be Coeur d'Or (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-brother to G1 Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond (Ire) (King's Best) and G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Princess Highway (Street Cry {Ire}); Search for a Song (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a half-sister to G1 Prince of Wales's S. winner Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}); Switch Around (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), a daughter of Grade I winner Switch, who was bought by Moyglare for $4.3-million at Fasig November five years ago; and Nostra Casa (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a half-brother to Moyglare's classy stayer Forgotten Rules (Ire) (Nayef).
