Moyglare Stud Supremo Walter Haefner Dies

Moyglare Stud's owner Walter Haefner has died, aged 101. Born in Zurich in 1910, the businessman and philanthropist who set up the famed stud farm in 1962 bred such luminaries as Refuse To Bend (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), Casual Conquest (Ire) (Hernando {Fr}), Trusted Partner (Affirmed) and Dress To Thrill (Ire) (Danehill). Last week, the black, white and red silks were carried to success at Royal Ascot by Princess Highway (Steet Cry {Ire}) in the G2 Ribblesdale S. One of the pioneers of international competition, Haefner was rewarded by the victory of Go and Go (Ire) (Be My Guest) in the 1990 Belmont S. and by Additional Risk (Ire) (Ahonoora {GB}) in the inaugural Hong Kong Bowl. A memorial service will be held in Ireland at a later date.
