Willie Mullins will attempt to win back to back G1 Irish St Legers with his classy dual purpose stayer Wicklow Brave (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}). The 8-year-old belongs in a select club of horses who have won both a Group 1 race on the flat and a Grade 1 race over jumps and he proved he was still a force on the level when failing by only half a length to give a stone in weight to Rekindling (GB) (High Chaparral {Ire}) in the G2 Comer Group International Curragh Cup on Sunday. “I thought it was a very good run and we might look at finding something for him before coming back to the Curragh for the Leger,” Mullins said on Monday. “He's a fantastic horse to be able to do it at that level on the Flat and also over jumps,” the trainer added. Wicklow Brave got the better of Order Of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at The Curragh last year when given a brilliant tactical front running ride by Frankie Dettori and he again showed how dangerous he was when allowed rope up front when winning the G1 Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle under the trainer's son Patrick in April. His racecourse exploits over five seasons of racing to date has seen Wicklow Brave win ten races and earn prizemoney of over £600,000 for his owner Nick Peacock.
