Bidding on behalf of Shadwell Estate Company and Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum, Angus Gold saw off the challenge of Coolmore's John Magnier and landed hip 114, a Nayef half-brother to MGSW & MG1SP Fantasia (GB) (Sadler's Wells), for 525,000gns at Tattersalls. Bred by Fittocks Stud and consigned by Highclere Stud, the bay is also kin to Pink Symphony (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}), a 400,000gns TATOCT grad who just missed by a short head in the Listed Foundation S. at Goodwood Sept. 22. “The mare has bred a Group 1-performing filly over one mile by Sadler's Wells so you'd hope that he might a bit of speed,” Gold told Racing Post. “He's by a horse close to Sheikh Hamdan's heart and we still believe in him.” Carrying Sheikh Hamdan's blue and white silks, Nayef won the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic in 2002, one of his four wins at the highest level.
