Jamie Ness was impressed enough with the debut victory of One More Shot (Trappe Shot) last December at Tampa Bay Downs that the trainer stepped in to purchase the now 3-year-old colt for a session-topping $145,000 in the name of his racing operation Jagger, Inc. at last week's Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Winter Mixed Sale. One More Shot was purchased by leading 2-year-old consignor Niall Brennan for $100,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton October sale and was sent to Ness's Tampa base after missing last year's juvenile sales. He scored by eight lengths in his Dec. 23 debut (video).
“I had him here for a couple of months,” Ness explained Wednesday. “And of course he won pretty impressively the first time he ran. The owner sent him down to me and he was going to sell him the whole time. We knew he was going to sell. We put a value on him here and they ran him through the sale.”
Of the colt's final price, Ness said, “That was about what we thought he was worth and we bought him.”
One More Shot returned to the work tab Wednesday, going five furlongs in 1:00.00 (3/9) at Tampa Bay Downs.
“He worked ok,” Ness said. “He was never a very good work horse, but he worked a minute which is good on this track. We'll just try to keep progressing.”
As for a next start for the chestnut, Ness added, “He is probably going to work again next week and if he looks good again, we'll look for a race after that.”
