New Pension Scheme Unveiled for Irish Stable Employees, Roadshows Begin Next Week

A series of six initial membership roadshows have been scheduled in Ireland over the next three weeks regarding the new pension scheme for long serving Irish stable staff at retirement, Horse Racing Ireland announced Thursday. Scheduled for Newbridge (Sept. 27), Newry (Sept. 28), Carlow (Oct. 2), Cork (Oct. 4), Meath (Oct. 5), and Tipperary (Oct. 9), the roadshows will highlight the provisions of the new defined contribution pension scheme that has been developed by a committee consisting of representatives of HRI, the Turf Club, Irish Racehorse Trainers' Association and the Irish Stablestaff Association. The scheme will continue to be funded by the proportion of prize-money deducted from trainers, with staff receiving benefits of the scheme not required to make a contribution.

“Although it seems as if this scheme is a long time coming, it has been a complex process and the Committee of Managment is confident that it will be a positive step forward for both trainers and stable staff,” said Margaret Davin, Chairperson of the Committee of Management of the Stable Employees Defined Contribution Pension Scheme. “We would encourage as many as possible to attend the roadshows to get an understanding of the scheme.”
