Newmarket: Eben Shaddad Put To The Test In The Tattersalls

What could be classed as Europe's long weekend gets underway on Thursday, with Newmarket hosting the first of the three days of their Cambridgeshire meeting which eventually blends with all the key action at ParisLongchamp.

Central to the opening fixture is the G3 Tattersalls S., or Somerville Tattersall S. as it used to be known, with several of the major stables represented including the Gosdens' Clarehaven operation. Their runner is the TDN Rising Star Eben Shaddad (Calyx {GB}), who earned that title with his dynamic display over six furlongs on the July Course in August and who was taken out of the G3 Sirenia S. “Eben Shaddad won his novice well first time out on the July course, he's progressive and we're looking forward to seeing him step up,” Thady said of Prince Faisal bin Khaled and Najd Stud's €190,000 Arqana May Breeze-Up graduate.

Ballydoyle are present with the seemingly highly-regarded six-furlong Naas maiden winner Military (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), while Godolphin's Legend Of Time (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is moving in the other direction trip-wise coming back from a debut win over a mile at Haydock earlier this month. His trainer Charlie Appleby, who has won two of the last three of these including with Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), commented, “Legend Of Time learned plenty on his debut and looks to have come forward for the run. He is dropping back to seven furlongs, but I feel it is well within his compass. We are dipping our toe at this level to see where we are for the rest of the campaign.”
