Vacare (Lear Fan), winner of last Saturdayís GII First Lady S. at Keeneland, will bypass the GI Breedersí Cup Filly & Mare Turf in favor of the GI Matriarch S. at Hollywood Nov. 25, according to Daily Racing Form. Trainer Christophe Clement said there were several reasons for skipping the Breedersí Cup. ìThe owners will be quite happy to keep her in training next year so we can always make the Breeders' Cup next year,î he told the publication. ìTwo, the Breeders' Cup this year is a mile and three-eighths at Monmouth, which [could] mean soft turf, and she's never raced further than a mile and an eighth. Three, the Matriarch is a flat mile and it will be run on firm turf and it's a very good race.î Vacare was purchased by Jon and Sarah Kelly for $2.8 million at last yearís FTKNOV sale.
