Following recent speculation over the possibility of the G1 Melbourne Cup being moved from its traditional date Victoria Racing Club Chairman Amanda Elliott has moved to end such speculation by confirming no change will take place. “I emphatically assure all Australians that the Melbourne Cup will continue to be run on the first Tuesday in November,” Elliott confirmed. “The Melbourne Cup Carnival is internationally recognised and considered one of the great racing carnivals of the world.” This announcement was backed up by Victoria's racing minister Martin Pakula who added, “I've spoken to the Chairman of the VRC and the Acting Chairman of Racing Victoria this morning. Rest assured. The Melbourne Cup's not moving.”
