No Epsom Trp For Karpino

German trainer Andreas Wohler has announced that Monday's G2 German 2000 Guineas winner Karpino (Ger) (Cape Cross {Ire}) will sidestep a possible Epsom Derby bid and will instead remain in Germany to target the G1 Deutches Derby at Hamburg. A highly impressive winner at Cologne on Monday in the colour's of Pearl Bloodstock, Karpino is now unbeaten in three starts and his trainer told the Racing Post on Wednesday, “We had a long discussion this morning, but have decided to stick to the original plan, which means that he will run next in the German Derby at Hamburg on July 5.” Wohler will be bidding to win the race for the second time in five years having scored with Waldpark (Ger) (Dubawi {Ire}) in 2011 and was only just denied in the race the following year when Novellist (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}) was narrowly beaten by Pastorius (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}).
