MRS WATANABE (Tapizar) switches to the turf for the first time, having made all the running from gate 16 to break her maiden narrowly at first asking in a 1400-meter test on dirt at Tokyo Oct. 15. Bred by Chuck Kidder, Nancy Cole and J.K. and Linda Griggs, the bay filly fetched $130K as a KEESEP yearling in 2015 and was knocked down to Narvick International's Emmanuel de Seroux for $295K (second priciest of her sire's first-crop juveniles) after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10 flat at this year's OBSMAR sale. Mrs Watanabe is closely related to MGSP Tap for Luck (Tapit) while her SW & GSP second dam Gerri N Jo Go (Top Command) produced GSW Freefourracing (French Deputy). Mrs Watanabe retains the services of top rider Christophe Lemaire. —Alan Carasso
