In this ongoing series, Alan Carasso takes a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Chukyo and Hanshin Racecourses, including a New York-bred daughter of Speightstown taking her chance in one of Japan's top sprint events:

JUPITER CALLISTO (c, 3, Curlin">Curlin–Moonlight Lover, by Bernardini) made his first two career appearances on turf, finishing unplaced while not disgracing himself, and cuts back to a dirt sprint for this third go. The $350K KEESEP yearling is out of an unraced daughter of Katz Me If You Can (Storm Cat), a dual graded-winning sprinter and herself granddam of SW & GISP Comfort (Indian Charlie). Third dam Cuddles (Mr. Prospector) win the 1990 GI Hollywood Starlet S. B-Circle H Farms (LA)

KITASAN DAISY (f, 3, Violence&log=">Violence–The Calypso Myth, by Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) tries turf for the first time here, having finished third in each of her first two trips to the post Nov. 18 and Dec. 17 (gate 6, see below). While her second dam is responsible for dirt GSW & GISP Midnight Cry (Smart Strike), her great-granddam was a Group 3 winner and mutliple GI/G1-placed on the grass. A $20K KEENOV weanling and $35K KEESEP yearling, Kitasan Daisy fetched $320K after breezing a furlong in :10.1 at OBSAPR last spring. B-Blackstone Farm LLC (PA)

11th-CKO, Takamatsunomiya Kinen, ¥215m ($2.06m), 4yo/up, 1200mT
RIENO TESORO (f, 4, Speightstown–Akilina, by Langfuhr), a two-time listed winner on dirt, has yet to break through on the grass despite some strong efforts, including a runner-up finish against the boys in last year's G1 NHK Mile Cup (gate 14, see below). Her MSW & GSP dam has also accounted for SW & MGSP Governor Malibu (Malibu Moon) while the further female family includes this year's GII Holy Bull S. hero Audible (Into Mischief). 12th-HSN, ¥19,950,000 ($190k), Allowance, 4yo/up, 1800m
HURRICANE BAROWS (h, 5, Uncle Mo–Naughty Mambo, by Kingmambo) has posted victories in three of his four starts since being switched to the dirt and most recently returned from a 14-month hiatus to take a 1700m test as the 6-5 favorite at Kokura Mar. 3. A $120K KEESEP yearling turned $300K FTFMAR breezer, the bay is out of a half to Sovereign Award winner and US GISW Negligee (Northern Afleet). B-Dr Naoya Yoshida & Bill Justice (KY)
