Nyquist Firster Current Yield Takes The Heat, Won't Be Beat On Debut

Klaravich Stables' CURRENT YIELD (f, 3, Nyquist–Denali Tizadream, by Colonel John) overcame a tricky inside trip, belying her inexperience to graduate impressively at first asking as the 2-1 favorite Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs.

Away fairly from the inside gate in a full field of sophomore fillies, the $400,000 Keeneland September purchase mustered for speed and argued the pace from a tight spot down on the fence entering the turn. Ridden along as they lined up five abreast to take a crack at her on the swing for home, Current Yield courageously found more beneath Samy Camacho and was home to graduate by about a length and a quarter. Fellow first-starter Sorokin (Charlatan), last into the turn, began to pick off horses approaching the stretch, was steered out widest and did her best work through the wire to just touch off Princess Vekoma (Vekoma) for second.

The May 9 foal is out of a half-sister to MSW Tax Refund (Artax) and to SW & GSP Sophia's Song (Bellamy Road), the dam of GISW sire Bright Future (Curlin), MGSW Booth (Mitole) and GSW & GISP Musical Mischief (Into Mischief). Denali Tizadream is represented by a yearling Pappacap filly and was most recently bred back to Bright Future.

6th-Tampa Bay Downs, $32,000, Msw, 1-31, 3yo, f, 6 1/2f, 1:19.90, ft, 1 3/4 lengths.
