J. Paul Reddam's Nyquist (Uncle Mo), undefeated winner of Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby, shipped from Churchill Downs to Pimlico Race Course Monday in anticipation of his next start in the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, the May 21 GI Preakness S. The Doug O'Neill trainee left the Churchill Downs backstretch at 1:25 p.m. ET for a short van ride to Standiford Field, where he departed Louisville on a flight to Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
O'Neill and his team continue to offer positive reports in the aftermath of Nyquist's 1 1/4-length triumph Saturday.
“He is full of himself this morning and it is like he never even ran,” assistant trainer Jack Sisterson commented Monday.
Nyquist could face as many as 13 rivals in the Preakness as of Monday morning. Dazzling Gem (Misremembered) and Fellowship (Awesome of Course) were added to the list of possible entrants for the 1 3/16-mile Classic, joining Nyquist, Exaggerator (Curlin), Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}), Suddenbreakingnews (Mineshaft), Brody's Cause (Giant's Causeway), Creator (Tapit), Lani (Tapit), Awesome Speed (Awesome Again), 'TDN Rising Star' Cherry Wine (Paddy O'Prado), Collected (City Zip), Laoban (Uncle Mo) and Stradivari (Medaglia d'Oro).
