OBS Winter Mixed Sale Begins Wednesday

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Winter Mixed Sale begins its two-day run Wednesday with a slightly different dynamic than in years past. OBS opted to cancel its 2016 October Mixed Sale while renovating its sales pavilion, and going forward has consolidated what used to be two mixed sales a year into just one–the Winter Sale. They have also moved their yearling sale from August to October starting in 2017.

Last year's Winter Mixed Sale featured a catalog of 639, topped by a $150,000 Curlin colt consigned by Select Sales, Agent IV and purchased by Redbud Partnership.

In the absence of the October sale, this year's book features 739 entrants, with a consignor preferred session (hips 1-192) slated for Wednesday starting at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by horses of racing age (hips 193-297). Thursday's open session (hips 401-749) also kicks off at 10:30 a.m.

An optional under-tack session for the horses of racing age was held Monday, with hip 297, unraced 3-year-old gelding Hill Croome (American Lion), earning the three-furlong bullet in

:33 4/5. The Kentucky-bred bay will be offered by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent XI. Of the two horses to breeze four furlongs, unraced 3-year-old filly Dubai Princess (Overdriven) was quickest with a :47 2/5 clocking.
