Observations for Saturday Apr. 2

Elusive Quality | Darley

1.55 Kempton, Alw, £6,600, 2yo, 5f (AWT)
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum's DUSKER (Elusive Quality), a son of the 2003 [then ungraded] UAE Oaks victress Danuta (Sunday Silence), bids to add to trainer Mark Johnston's impressive three-for-three record with juveniles this term. The homebred bay, a full-brother to 2008 GI Darley Alcibiades S. third and 2009 Listed UAE Oaks winner Devotee, faces seven opponents in this first go. The introduction of Jeff Yingling's New Trier (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) marks a notable European departure for conditioner Wesley Ward, and is set to become a rare early-season representative of the Washington native.

4.30 Doncaster, Alw, £10,000, 2yo, 5fT
St Elias Stables' CREATE A DREAM (Oasis Dream {GB}) debuts in this Brocklesby S. and is slated to become another early-season firster in Britain for trainer Wesley Ward. The homebred bay is an April-foaled daughter of the 2007 G1 Prix Saint-Alary third Anabaa's Creation (Ire) (Anabaa), who came up a head shy of Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}) in the 2009 GI Clement Hirsch at Del Mar. Opposition includes John Brown and Megan Dennis's son of MG1SP Mala Mala (Ire) (Brief Truce), and fellow newcomer, The Last Lion (Ire) (Choisir {Aus}), an €82,000 GOFORB half-brother to dual stakes winners Contest (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and Russian Rock (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}). He hails from the Mark Johnston stable which has posted a 100% strike rate with three juvenile runners this term.

5.05 Doncaster, Mdn, £6,000, 3yo, 10f 60yT
Ronald Arculli's 220,000gns Tattersalls' December foal purchase AMAZING RED (IRE) (Teofilo {Ire}), from the in-form Ed Dunlop stable, will provide a poignant moment for connections in this debut being, as he is, a half-brother to the ill-fated G1 Hong Kong Vase hero and three-time G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}). Another positive factor is Ryan Moore in the saddle and his rivals include Julian Richmond-Watson's twice-raced Hereawi (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a Ralph Beckett-trained homebred daughter of 2008 G1 Epsom Oaks winner Look Here (GB) (Hernando {Fr}), who is the sole distaffer in a field of eleven.
