Beaten in the 8 1/2-furlong G3 Dr. Busch-Memorial but unbowed, Langtang (Ger) (Campanologist) moves up to a mile-and-a-quarter trip that promises to be more suitable in Sunday's G3 Ittlingen Derby Trial at Baden-Baden. No match for the subsequent G2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen fourth Dragon Lips (Ger) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) when second in that Krefeld contest Apr. 23, it will be a surprise if Klaus Allofs and Gestut Fahrhof's G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten winner who is out of a half to the 1996 G1 Deutsches Derby-winning sire Lavirco (Ger) fails to thrive over this extra distance. There is one unexposed member of the line-up, Stall Ullmann's May 7 Cologne maiden winner Instigator (Ger) (Nayef), whose family has enjoyed success at this venue including in the G3 Badener Meile courtesy of Idealist (Ger) (Tiger Hill {Ire}).
