Hamburg's big Deutsches Derby meeting kicks off on Friday, with the G3 Grosser Preis von LOTTO Hamburg taking centre stage featuring the fillies with aspirations for the G1 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) at Dusseldorf on Aug. 6. Last year's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin winner Well Spoken (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) was beaten a short head by Tusked Wings (Ire) (Adlerflug {Ger}) in the G2 Diana-Trial at Hoppegarten on June 4 and that is the standard to aim at. First and second in the May 20 Listed Preis Dusseldorf last time, Megera (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) and Alicante (Ger) (Lando {Ger}) re-oppose with the latter on three-pounds better terms for a 1 1/4-length defeat. Peter Schiergen has two in the line-up, with Gestut Haus Zoppenbroich's Cologne winner Lacazar (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) the pick of Andrasch Starke.
