G1 Coral-Eclipse winner Hawkbill (Kitten's Joy), whose six-race win sequence came to an end when eighth in the G1 Juddmonte International Aug. 17, will have one more run this year, according to trainer Charlie Appleby. That run is likely to come in the G1 Qipco Irish Champion S. Sept. 10 or the G1 Qipco Champion S. Oct. 15.
“He is great,” said Appleby of the Godolphin-owned 3-year-old. “Coming out of the race we now know that he quite clearly needs a bit of cut in the ground. He is in the Irish Champion S. and the Champion S. at Ascot. Wherever there is soft ground, he will go. If conditions at Leopardstown are not right we will wait and go for Champions Day. We will play it by ear, but he will probably have just the one more run.”
