Thanks for the article by Dean Towers about sports betting in Nevada. I felt he brought up many valid points. I have been a long time horse race bettor and wondered why tracks don't try other bets, such as what the time of a race may be. I also like the issue raised about takeout. Although it has gone up over the years, I generally continue to bet. However, in my home state of Pennsylvania, we have some of the highest takeout rates on the trifecta, superfecta, and other multi-race wagers. In these cases, I usually do not bet these wagers due to high takeout. I guess they feel we get enough back due to the higher payouts. However, as noted in the article, younger and more knowledgeable bettors, particularly those that use the Internet, seem to know and use low takeout bets. I hope the experiment Canterbury Park is doing this year is successful. If it is, maybe other tracks will notice and copy the concept. At least Canterbury is trying to do something to raise fan interest and betting handle.
Thanks.
