Oppenheim: Royal Ascot 2011 in Review

In this week's column, Bill Oppenheim reflects upon and reviews the results of last week's Royal Ascot meeting. Aidan O'Brien just outperformed Richard Hannon for top trainer honors with four wins and earnings approaching a half-million pounds. On the track, Galileo and Cape Cross each accounted for three winners at the meeting, but the former just gets the nod on progeny earnings based on a higher number of placed performers. Interestingly, of the 12 stallions with two or more top-three placings during the week, no fewer than 10 of those stand or stood at either Coolmore or one of the Darley farms, the exceptions being Oasis Dream and Selkirk.
