Co-trainer David Hayes said Oscietra (Aus) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), the first foal out of Australian superstar Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) would now be spelled, reported Racing And Sports. A promising third in the 1000-meter New Year Plate on debut at Flemington behind Limestone (Aus) (Helmet {Aus}), Oscietra had won her first two trials to date and will skip the major upcoming 2-year-old races.
“The expectation of the girl is so great,” Hayes told Racing And Sports. “I think she will win plenty of races and will get better. Because she's been going so well in her trials and hasn't been put under much pressure before, when she got out under pressure she responded, but the winner had far too many guns. She's got electric early speed, she's going to be better around the bend, but her mother and her father were so good down the straight we thought we'd give it a go.”
Black Caviar has since produced a 2015 colt by Sebring (Aus) and a 2016 filly by Snitzel (Aus). She was covered by More Than Ready this past fall and has been confirmed in foal to the prominent shuttle stallion.
