Our Ivanhowe On Caulfield Cup Track

Last-out G1 Doomben Cup winner Our Ivanhowe (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}) has returned to work for trainers Lee and Anthony Freedman and is likely to have two runs ahead of his key spring target, the G1 Caulfield Cup, according to Racing.com. Lee Freedman noted the 6-year-old, a dual Group 1 winner in his native Germany, enjoyed a brief spell after his first win at the highest level Down Under May 21.

“He had three weeks off after the Doomben Cup; he has really thrived,” Freedman told Racing.com. “Those older imports love being in work, so we just gave him three weeks off, boxed him at night and he is back trotting and cantering now. We are looking forward to the spring with him and hopefully we get some soft tracks with him.”

Freedman said Our Ivanhowe would likely use two Group 1s for a lead-up in the Caulfield Cup Oct. 15.

“I'm leaning towards the Underwood [Sept. 24]; he is not a horse that needs a lot of racing to take him into the Caulfield Cup. It would probably be just that and the Turnbull S. [Oct. 2] and then in to the Caulfield Cup.”

Our Ivanhowe finished third in last year's Caulfield Cup with two lead-up races.
