The foal pinhookers were back out in force on Saturday for the penultimate session of the Goffs November Sale.
Tally-Ho Stud has been one of the major spenders this week at Kildare Paddocks and Tony O'Callaghan's team added another four foals to what is likely to be another strong yearling draft next season. That included the day's leading lot (1442), a first-crop son of the Darley Club stallion Outstrip (GB) (Excced And Excel {Aus}) bought for €39,000.
The grey weanling is out of the unraced Shadwell-bred mare Tawjeeh, whose sire Haafhd is showing promising signs as a broodmare sire, and she was well bought by the colt's breeder Corrin Stud for 3,500gns at the Tattersalls July Sale of 2011. Her half-sister Baqah (Ire) (Bahhare) won the G2 Prix de Sandringham and is already a proven producer as the dam of Almanaar (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), winner of the GI Gulfstream Park Turf H. for Chad Brown in February having won a pair of Group 3 races when trained in France by Freddy Head.
David Myerscough of Baroda & Colbinstown Studs took the opportunity to buy a colt from the final crop of Overbury Stud's Delegator (GB) who died at the age of just 10 last December. A son of the unraced Letizia (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}), who is a half-sister to the treble Listed winner and Group 3-placed Battalion (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}) from the extended family of the French stallions Galiway (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and Gold Away (Ire) (Goldneyev), lot 1347 was consigned by Rochestown Lodge Stud and sold for €38,000.
War Command has his first runners on the track next season and a member of his second crop also reached €38,000 when selling to Castlehyde Stud. Lot 1471, bred by Highpark Bloodstock, is a half-brother to 3-year-old winner Aunty Audrey (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) out of the Mr Greeley mare Acts Out Loud, who also has a yearling filly by War Command.
A further €1,299,750 was added to the tally accrued from the first three foals days, which was down on the equivalent session last year when €1,599,700 changed hands, though 13 more foals were sold from a larger catalogue in 2016. The 141 foals sold from 206 offered this time around brought an improved clearance rate which was up seven points at 68%. Those sold brought an average of €9,218 (-11%) and median of €6,500 (-10%).
The final abridged session of the Goffs November Sale, which has 122 foals catalogued, will begin at 10am today.
