The 2017 GI TVG Pacific Classic will air live on the NBC Sports Network Saturday, Aug. 19, officials at Del Mar announced Wednesday.
Contested over the same course and 10-furlong distance of the GI Breeders' Cup Classic, set to visit the seaside oval for the first time later this year, the Pacific Classic has a rich history, having been won by the likes of Best Pal, Candy Ride (Arg), Game On Dude, Shared Belief, Beholder and, in 2016, by Horse of the Year California Chrome.
“The TVG Pacific Classic has grown in stature year by year,” said DMTC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Josh Rubinstein. “And with the Breeders' Cup coming our way in the fall, we believe this year's edition will have an extra special interest for horsemen from around the country.”
The Pacific Classic is the only million-dollar race for older horses on the West Coast and will once again be part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge, offering the winner a fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Classic Saturday, Nov. 4.
