Pleasant Tap Mares Tops KEENOV Session 12

Point of Entry | Adena Springs

A total of 149 horses found new homes for gross receipts of $918,900 during the penultimate session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Saturday. The average was $6,167 with a $3,700 median and 30% buy-back rate.

Last year's sale had one fewer session (12) than the 2016 renewal, making session-to-session comparisons difficult, but for the entirety of the 2015 sale, 2,575 horses sold at an average of $85,033 for a gross of $218,959,400. The median was $30,000 with a 25.2% RNA rate. Through 12 of 13 sessions this year, 2,531 horses have brought $214,603,100. The average is $84,790 with a 27.3% RNA rate.

Topping trade Saturday was Lady Susan (Pleasant Tap) (hip 4486), an 8-year-old mare in foal to young sire Point of Entry. Consigned by Adena Springs and offered with a 2017 no-guarantee season to Awesome Again, she went to Adel M. Alatawy for $42,000. The earner of $114,196 is out of a stakes-placed Regal Classic mare and hails from the family of Grade I winners Magazine and Relaxed Gesture (Ire).

Racing prospect Portando (Bertrando), a winning 4-year-old gelding with current earnings of $105,550 from a 7-1-4-0 record, went to Three Diamonds Farm for $40,000. He was consigned to the sale by Gainesway, Agent XXIX as hip 4496.

Hip 4198, a colt from the first crop of Can the Man, was the priciest weanling on the day at $19,000. Consigned by Warrendale Sales, Agent XLI, he was picked up by Patrick H. Hoppel.
