Pletcher Duo Preps for Oaks
Mathis Stable’s My Miss Sophia (Unbridled’s Song) and Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Philip Steinberg’s Got Lucky (A.P. Indy) worked at Churchill Downs together Saturday in their final preparation for the
GI Kentucky Oaks May 1. The duo breezed four panels in :49.40, setting splits of :12.20 and :24.40 with GII Gazelle S. victress My Miss Sophia along the rail edging Gazelle runner-up Got Lucky by a neck. They galloped out six furlongs in 1:15.
“Many of our horses work together,” trainer Todd Pletcher noted. “These two have been on the same path. They both ran in the same race last time, they’ll run in the same race Friday and they train together. It was a good move for them today. They both went off well and finished up well.”
Bill and Terry Mathis have indicated that 10% of My Miss Sophia’s earnings in the Oaks will be put towards Bright Pink, a non-profit organization that focuses on risk reduction and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer.
