Pletcher Runners Tune Up at Spa

 A trio of runners from the Todd Pletcher barn worked at Saratoga Saturday ahead of stakes engagements in the coming week. Liam's Map (Unbridled's Song), working for the Aug. 8 GI Whitney H., worked a brisk five furlongs in :58.42.

“He went a little faster than I ideally wanted, but he looked impressive doing it,” Pletcher said. “Hopefully, it didn't take too much out of him.”

The once-beaten lightly raced colt won the Harlan's Holiday S. at Gulfstream last December and is coming off a Belmont optional claimer victory June 19.

Angela Renee (Bernardini), winner of last year's GI Chandelier S., worked four furlongs Saturday in :48.25 as she readies for the Aug. 8 GI Longines Test S.

“She's been very sharp,” said Pletcher. “We're looking forward to backing her up to seven-eighths and seeing how she handles that, but we're happy with the way she's training.”

Last year's GI Champagne S. winner Daredevil (More Than Ready) prepped for the Aug. 7 GII National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame S. with a bullet four-furlong work in :47.98. The sophomore will be making his turf debut Friday in his first outing since finishing a well-beaten fourth in the GI Twinspires.com Wood Memorial S. in April.

The next start for GII Brooklyn S. winner Coach Inge (Big Brown) is undecided. The 4-year-old, nominated to the Whitney, worked four furlongs Saturday in :50.20.

“It was a good steady half,” said Pletcher. “He's a very fit horse coming out of 1 ½ mile and 1 ¼ mile races. We're happy with him. He seems to moving well and he's in good form.”

Coach Inge was most recently third in the July 4 GII Suburban H.

Pletcher added he was pleased with the maiden-breaking performance of Tennessee (Giant's Causeway) Friday at Saratoga. Last year's $1.15-million Barretts March topper went wire-to-wire to win by 1 3/4 lengths in his second career outing.

“We were happy with that effort,” Pletcher said of Tennessee. “He broke well and seemed to put himself in a good spot. I thought it was a good performance. We've had high expectations from him from the beginning and it's nice to see him get on track and build from here.”
