Point of Entry Exits Manhattan Victory With Fracture

POINT OF ENTRY SUFFERS FRACTURE

Phipps Stable and Frank Stronach’s Point of Entry (Dynaformer), winner of Saturday’s GI Woodford Reserve Manhattan H. at Belmont Park, exited the race with a condylar fracture in his left hind cannon bone, trainer Shug McGaughey revealed today. McGaughey said the 5-year-old five-time Grade I winner will undergo surgery tomorrow, which will be performed by Dr. Larry Bramlage. He described the injury as minor, and said that while no decision has been made on the horse’s future, he could be ready to return in the fall, and the Breeder’s Cup was not out of the question. McGaughey did note, however, that Point of Entry’s ownership group had intended to retire the horse to stud following the 2013 racing season.
