'Point' to Resurface at Haydock

Blue Point | Racing Post

Charlie Appleby has set his sights on the G1 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock with 'TDN Rising Star' Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal) after reporting the colt to have returned from Royal Ascot “a bit jarred up.” The Shamardal colt was part of a thrilling three-way finish to the G1 Commonwealth Cup, having to settle for third behind Caravaggio (Scat Daddy) and fellow Godolphin runner Harry Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the six-furlong heat. Appleby was thrilled with his charge's effort in defeat but believes the MGSW needs a bit of time to get over that run, with the Haydock Group 1 on Sept. 9 now a tentative target.

“He has run a blinder in the Commonwealth, a race many thought was the best race of the five days,” Appleby said. “But he has returned home a bit jarred up. A few weeks off will do him good. It means he will miss the July Cup, as well as the G1 Nunthorpe [S.]at York. But we hope to have him back for the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup.”
