A 20-percent interest in likely Horse of the Year Curlin (Smart Strike) could be auctioned off after a foreclosure motion was filed Monday in Kentuckyís Boone County Circuit Court, according to published reports. A hearing for this request will be held Jan. 22 in Frankfort, Kentucky. Jess Jackson, along with his wife Barbara Banke, owns 80 percent of the big chestnut after buying out first Padua Stables and then George Bolton. The remaining Curlin interest is held in receivership due to the fact that Midnight Cry Stables principals, attorneys William Gallion and Shirley Cunningham Jr., are currently jailed due to a $200-million lawsuit involving the diet drug fen-phen.
