2017 Japanese champion juvenile colt Danon Premium (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) made it a perfect four-for-four with a powerful score in the G2 Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho at Nakayama on Sunday. Hustled up to race in a perfect stalking second against the fence as Sans Rival (Jpn) (Rulership {Jpn}) was off to an open length lead, 4-5 favourite Danon Premium was content to bide his time, as the first 1000 metres was clocked in 1:01.5. His rival's advantage shrank rapidly approaching the home turn and Danon Premium took dead aim with 600 metres remaining. In charge with a quarter mile to travel, Danon Premium swept five wide into the lane and drew off to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Wagnerian (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Gendarme (Kitten's Joy) closed strongly to take second and third, respectively, separated by a half-length. Sans Rival was a nose back in fourth.
Off the mark in a Hanshin newcomers' race over 1800 metres on June 25, Danon Premium maintained his perfect record stepping up to group level, taking the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup cutting back to a mile at Tokyo on Oct. 7. He sealed the Japanese 2-Year-Old Colt championship with another win, this time over firm ground in the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity S. at Hanshin on Dec. 17, the third winner of the race for his Shadai supersire.
