Pretty Polly Winner Jennifer Jane To Skip The Oaks In Favour Of Italy

Charlie Johnston has opted not to supplement Jennifer Jane for the G1 Betfred Oaks | Tattersalls

Listed heroine Jennifer Jane (New Bay) will not contest the G1 Betfred Oaks on June 5, and instead be pointed toward the Italian version later that month, according to Charlie Johnston.

The Russell Trew and Towbraccan runner won at Wetherby last June before running second in the Listed Star Stakes in July. After a fruitless run in the G3 Prestige Fillies' Stakes in August, she was given a break. Making her three-year-old bow in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month, she made all the running to win by six lengths.

Johnston said, “Plan A is she will go to the Italian Oaks and we thought long and hard about supplementing her for Epsom but £35,000 is a lot of money, particularly with us not certain she will stay.

“We went to Newmarket not sure she would stay 10 furlongs and 12 would be a real step into the unknown.

“It might not be as sexy an option, but it's still a Group 2 and worth €400,000 and will be a lot easier to win than the Oaks, so that's where she will go next hopefully.”
