Showing a flashy worktab, punctuated by a best-of-64 half-mile spin on the local main in :46 3/5 Aug. 11, the $425,000 OBS April buy broke a bit hesitantly as the 9-10 chalk, but quickly made up ground to stalk longshot Great Ma Neri (Reagan Republican) from second through a :22.71 quarter. Those two arrived at the head of the lane on even terms, but the favorite surged to the front passing the furlong grounds and inched away late to a 1 1/2-length graduation over the pacesetter.
