Prominent Owners & Trainers Make Vet Records Public
A number of prominent owners and trainers have voluntarily offered to make the veterinary records of horses competing in graded stakes in the U.S. and Canada public, The Jockey Club announced yesterday.
The records will cover the 14-day period prior to and including the day of each race. They will be made available at least two hours before post time on race day, effective immediately.
This decision came on the heels of a public proposal by The Jockey Club’s chairman and prominent owner/breeder Ogden Phipps Apr. 14. Phipps called for the veterinary records of Triple Crown runners to be made public in order to increase the integrity and credibility of Thoroughbred racing following the PETA scandal.
“I commend each of the owners and trainers for taking a bold step to enhance the image of our sport, and it is our sincere hope that other owners and trainers will soon adopt this voluntary practice as well,” Phipps said.
The current list of owners and trainers includes: Adena Springs (Frank Stronach), John Amerman, Roger Attfield (trainer), Antony Beck, Gary Biszantz, , Bill Casner, Mark Casse, Claiborne Farm, Christophe Clement (trainer), Darley and Godolphin (HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum), Adele Dilschneider, Dogwood Stable (Cot Campbell), Neil Drysdale (trainer), Will Farish, Glen Hill Farm, Harris Farms (John Harris), Stuart S.
