Quality Road Out of Kentucky Derby

Trainer Jimmy Jerkens canceled a scheduled Monday morning breeze for GI Florida Derby winner Quality Road (c, 3, Elusive Quality) and announced that the Edward Evans homebred would miss Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby. “It's devastating,” Jerkens told Daily Racing Form. “I don't know that you could ever get a horse to the Derby with his credentials leading up to it.” Quality Road first developed a quarter crack in his hind foot, for which he was successfully treated. However, a new crack was recently discovered in his right front foot, and Jerkens noted that there was still soreness in that foot Monday morning, prompting him to cancel the breeze.
