Queensland Oaks Rained Out

Heavy rainfall on Australia's east coast on Saturday saw a handful of race meetings cancelled including Eagle Farm, which was set to feature the G1 Queensland Oaks. That feature and other stakes have been moved to next Saturday's Eagle Farm card, which will also feature three other Group 1s: the A$1.5 million Stradbroke H., the A$600,000 JJ Atkins S. and the A$600,000 Queensland Derby. Other races were transferred to other cards, and some scrapped altogether.

“It is unfortunate that racing was unable to go ahead at Eagle Farm, but the safety of our participants is our number one priority,” Racing Queensland acting Chief Executive Sam Adams told Racing and Sports. “There were many factors to consider in devising a contingency plan, but we feel this is the best possible outcome for all participants without impacting on the existing races programmed for the remainder of the carnival. Re-programming the entire meeting to an alternate day was considered, but it was deemed impractical to do so without adversely impacting existing meetings and participants.”
