Rain Forces Brave Move To Haydock

Soft ground has scuppered Hugo Palmer's plans to run Home Of The Brave (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) in Saturday's G1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

The winner of his sole start to date this season at Leicester in the Listed EBF Stallions King Richard II S., the 4-year-old colt was recently sold to race for Godolphin but is to remain in training with Palmer. He looks likely to head now to Haydock before a possible tilt at the Queen Anne S. at Royal Ascot.

Palmer said. “Newbury looks like being a bog this weekend and that wouldn't have suited him at all. Rather than be drawn into running on ground which wouldn't suit, we've decided to head for the John Of Gaunt [now known as the Timeform Jury S.] at Haydock on May 28. After that we'll discuss the possibility of maybe supplementing for the Queen Anne at Ascot, we'll see how he gets on at Haydock.”

Sixth behind Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in last year's G1 QIPCO 2,000 Guineas, Home Of The Brave has won three of his nine races and was disqualified after finishing first past the post in the G3 Friarstown Stud Minstrel S. in Ireland last July when he tested positive for a banned substance.
