Street Sense (Street Cry {Ire}) tuned up for the Classic with a five-furlong move in 1:01.20 after the renovation break at Monmouth Park yesterday. The Sept. 29 GII Kentucky Cup Classic S. runner-up was caught in splits of :26, :38,
:50 2/5, 1:12 2/5, 1:25 2/5 and 1:38 2/5 beneath Calvin Borel. ìHe handled this track like he does at Churchill [Downs],î Borel said. ìWhen I asked him, he was there for me from the eighth pole to about a sixteenth [of a mile] past the wire. He is doing good. They had better come ready.î Trainer Carl Nafzger was also pleased with the GI Travers S. winnerís breeze. ìHe worked great,î Nafzger commented. ìHe relaxed real good with Calvin, then he picked it up and finished off strong. He came back blowing just right. He needed to test the track and he did.î
