Ascot Sales continued on its current growth trend and increased by 2%.

“The phenomenal trade experienced at Tattersalls Ireland over the past couple of years took another giant leap forward in 2017 experiencing growth for the sixth consecutive year, the third highest aggregate on record experiencing an 19% increase to conclude 2017 with a turnover of €53,412,000 and the highest average ever recorded at Tattersalls Ireland of €20,347.”

Of the Fairyhouse results, he added, “The market-leading Derby Sale continues to be the main highlight of the Tattersalls Ireland sales calendar. The two days trade produced the best set of returns for a Derby Sale on record: the highest aggregate of €17,665,500 (+24%), highest average of €51,654 (+9%) and highest median of €42,500 (+18%) ever recorded at the sale since its inception in 1975. The September Yearling Sale earned the accolade of one of the best performing yearling sales in Europe with a 90% clearance rate and a sparkling set of statistics and a sale topping record of €230,000. [The year] concluded with the sensational renewal of the November National Hunt Sale and remarkable trade throughout the whole week with the best set of results for the sale since 2007–then a 13-day sale and a record median of €11,500 and a record average of €15,996.”

“Tattersalls Ireland graduates provide the best possible form of promotion for any sale and 2017 has witnessed some very special horses on the track,” he added. “Gold Cup winner Sizing John, Finian's Oscar, Death Duty, Wicklow Brave, Yorkhill and One For Arthur all impressed on the National Hunt Field and on the Flat; 2-year-old Unfortunately enjoyed Group 1 and 2 success further complimented by Time Warp in Hong Kong, Hawksmoor and Quinta Verde in the U.S., Cold Stare and Ardenode in France, Duca Valentinois in Australia, Koropick in Great Britain and Realtra and Ellthea in Ireland and a significant increase in high-profile progressive 2-year-old winners, all highlighting the true international appeal for our Flat sales at Tattersalls Ireland.”

Ascot breeze-up graduate Sands Of Mali (Fr) (Panis) won the G2 Gimcrack S., and Casey added of the Ascot market, “Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sales has seen continuous and consistent growth with further development of the sales venue attracting a great number of customers to the venue resulting in a turnover of £6,131,500. Without a doubt, the greatest success came from this year's 2-year-old Breeze Up Sale producing a 7% increase to £2,012,600, the first time this sale has passed the £2-million mark. We also witnessed the introduction of a Yearling Sale to Ascot which in its first year produced encouraging statistics and showed scope for further progression.”
