The two-day Scone yearling sale began on a positive note on Sunday, with records for top price, average, median and gross. A total of 172 lots from 190 offered were sold at a clearance rate of 91% (up a tick from last year's 90%) and a gross of A$2,696,750. The average of A$19,747 was up 30% on last year, while the median rose 50% to A$15,000. The top price was A$120,000, paid by trainer Paul Perry for lot 99, a son of red hot sire I Am Invincible (Aus).
Inglis's National Bloodstock Manager Jonathan D'Arcy said, “To the vendors, the buyers and the breeders, congratulations to you all because you have all come out winners today from the HTBA Inglis Scone Yearling Sale. There was as big a crowd as I've seen at White Park in a long time, the bidding was exceptional and the outstanding results wouldn't be possible if not for a fantastic catalogue of well-presented yearlings. To have almost 70% of vendors enjoy a perfect 100% clearance rate is extremely rewarding for them, but also for us as an auction house to see our clients enjoy more great results.”
The record-setting I Am Invincible colt was offered by Yarrandi Farm and is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Trevinder (Aus) (Dane Shadow {Aus}) out of the unplaced Kiss Me Sophie (Aus) (Strategic {Aus}), a full-sister to G1 Galaxy H. winner Mistegic (Aus) and stakes winner Rightson (Aus).
“He's a real athletic-looking I Am Invincible,” said Perry. “I've seen plenty of his progeny over the past few sales and this fella really looked the part, even better than some of those at the other major sales. [I Am Invincible] is doing an amazing job. They come on quick, and they train on too, so you can't ask for much more than that from a stallion.”
It was a significant drop down to the next highest price of the day, the A$65,000 paid by Hickman Racing for a daughter of Bernardini (lot 14). A pair of yearlings hit the A$60,000 mark: a colt by Excelebration (Ire) (lot 10) picked up by Kim Waugh, and a filly by Denman (Aus) (lot 132).
