Lot 399, a colt by Redoute's Choice (Aus) out of Apercu (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) needed just two bids to get sold and top Friday's session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. After trainer Gai Waterhouse made a bold A$750,000 salvo to start the proceedings, conditioner John O'Shea fired back with the winning A$800,000 bid. “Gai does that a lot,” O'Shea said after signing the ticket. “I thought he was the best-looking Redoute's colt I'd seen in a long time.” The colt was consigned by Newgate Farm on behalf of breeders Edmund and Belinda Bateman, who are expected to retain a share in the colt when he reaches the races.
