Ibiza scored on debut over a mile at Saint-Cloud May 1 prior to finishing third to Lightupthenight (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), who blew her chance in Sunday's G1 Prix Jean Prat by staying in the stalls, in a conditions event over that trip at Maisons-Laffitte four weeks later. Runner-up in the Listed Prix Melisande trying 10 furlongs at Compiegne last time June 12, the bay took a leap forward to cause an upset here. Settled third on the fence as Monroe Bay took up pace-setting duties, she was angled out as the favourite Wajnah (Fr) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) began to backtrack inside the final two furlongs and gradually gained the upper hand from the long-time leader from the furlong pole. “She's an improving filly and a half-sister to Zelzal who comes from the Deauville sales but was bought by her breeder,” trainer Nicolas Clement explained. “There is probably room for more improvement and I imagine I will bring her back for the [G2] Prix de la Nonette [at Deauville Aug. 19].”
As her trainer mentioned, the winner is a half-sister to last year's G1 Prix Jean Prat hero Zelzal, with the dam being a granddaughter of the G3 Lancashire Oaks winner State Crystal who was also third in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks and G1 Prix Vermeille. She is a half-sister to the G1 Fillies' Mile heroine Crystal Music (Nureyev), the G3 John Porter S. scorer Dubai Success (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and the G3 May Hill S. winner Solar Crystal (Ire) (Alzao). This is also the family of the G1 Epsom Derby hero Royal Palace (GB).
