Redoute's Choice mare Peeping Wins Coolmore Classic

Peeping | Racing and Sports

Peeping gave 22-year-old Sam Clipperton a day he'll never forget, providing the young jockey with his first Group 1 winner in the Coolmore Classic–her fourth win from five starts at Rosehill. Trained by Ron Quinton, to whom Clipperton was apprenticed from the age of 15, Peeping broke well and, with favourite Solicit charging to the front to take up the early running, settled nicely off the pace in midfield through the nearly stages. Making her challenge three wide within the final 300 metres, Peeping ran down the early leader to finish half a length in front of the fast-finishing Azkadellia, with Solicit holding on to third after making almost all of the running.

“I was able to slot in three pairs back off the fence and 600 metres out they really increased the tempo and she just hit a bit of a flat spot,” said the winning jockey. “Then I pulled her out and she switched leads. I was confident at the 300. She was probably getting a bit tired but she kept challenging hard.”

He added, “I can't thank Ron and his owners enough. It's a bit of a fairytale being able to ride my first Group 1 winner for Ron. It's very special and I'm honestly speechless.”

Winner last September of the G2 McDonald House Golden Pendant, Peeping had been showing all the right signs since resuming racing on Feb. 13, beaten just a length for second that day in the G3 Robrick Lodge Triscay S. before taking third behind Solicit in the G2 Guy Walter S. a fortnight ago.

Peeping has now won six races and is out of the fellow six-time winner Miss Marielle, whose victories include the G2 STC Hill S. The mare has an unraced 2-year-old full-brother to Peeping, named France (Aus), a yearling colt by More Than Ready and a colt foal by Sebring (Aus).
