Sunday's G1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp sees the Wertheimers' unbeaten Queen's Jewel (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) place her reputation on the line, having looked worthy of her grandiose title when winning Saint-Cloud's G3 Prix Penelope last time Apr. 14. Her easy success in that 10 1/2-furlong Prix de Diane trial justified Freddy Head's high praise and her conditioner remains particularly sweet on his latest equine femme fatale. “She's a very good filly I think and if all goes well, she will go on to the G1 Prix de Diane,” he said. “She could be anything.” Another to capture an established prep for the Chantilly Classic was Peter Sander's Olorda (Ger) (Lord of England {Ger}), and there was no fluke in her gutsy performance to upstage fillies from some of this country's leading stables in the May 3 G3 Prix Vanteaux over the d'Ispahan trip. His Highness The Aga Khan's Varana (Fr) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) warrants respect following her latest five-length win in a mile conditions race at Saint-Cloud at the start of the month, while Jean-Claude Rouget pitches in another lacking in black-type exposure in Wekeela (Fr) (Hurricane Run {Ire}). Although she has improvement to find on her latest second to a useful runner in Impassable (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) over a mile at Chantilly last time May 2, Daniel-Yves Treves' bay is bred to appreciate this longer trip and hails from a stable rich in quality by which to measure her ability.
