Maisons-Laffitte's G2 Prix Eugene Adam has played host to some future headline-makers in its time, with Arcangues, Carnegie (Ire), Dubai Millennium (GB) and Twice Over (GB) the most notable and Sunday's edition looks up to scratch with the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Ultra (Ire) (Manduro {Ger}) at last getting his season started. While the bare form of his success in that mile Longchamp feature has been both boosted and let down by subsequent events, the fact that Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) was back in third suggests it set a fair standard. One of four from the Andre Fabre stable successful a record 14 times, he spearheads a trio of Godolphin representatives including the progressive Spectroscope (Medaglia d'Oro) who registered a five-length success in a mile conditions event at Saint-Cloud June 28. Fabre said, “Ultra has been working well at home in preparation for his reappearance. He has been away from the track for a long time and he will definitely take plenty of improvement from the race on Saturday.” The operation's Lisa-Jane Graffard added of the other contender, “Spectroscope is a horse who has continued to improve throughout the year and won his latest start in good fashion. He deserves to take his chance in Group company and we are looking forward to seeing him run.”
Fabre also saddles Markus Jooste's Craven's Legend (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who now boasts the honour of having beaten a group 1 winner after the Grand Prix de Paris hero Mont Ormel (Fr) (Air Chief Marshal {Ire}) was third behind him over this trip at Deauville May 15. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Apr. 20 G3 Prix Noailles winner Raseed (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) offers ballast, although he disappointed when ninth in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club over the same 10 1/2-furlong trip at Chantilly June 5 and has to rebound from that effort.
