Richard Galpin Dies

Bloodstock agent Richard Galpin, who suffered an apparent massive stroke while in Florida for this week's Fasig-Tipton Calder sale, has passed away. He was 71 years old. Responsible for his purchase of such horses as David Junior, GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Wilko and GI Belmont S. upsetter Sarava, Galpin began his career in England, but relocated to Central Kentucky in the late 1980s. “His record of buying horses on a restricted budget was second to none,” commented bloodstock agent Hugo Merry, a friend and colleague of Galpinís for the last 26 years. “He was a most diligent and hard-working man and he thrived on that hard work. This has been a great shock to us all.”
