Rising Star 'Ready' for Saratoga Special

Recruiting Ready | Jim McCue, MJC

Flashy 'TDN Rising Star' Recruiting Ready (Algorithms) looks to bounce back from a close second-place finish in Churchill's July 2 GIII Bashford Manor S. as he faces four rivals in the GII Saratoga Special S. Sunday. The bay colt was in a race of his own when airing by 10 1/4 lengths first up at Pimlico May 28, and led every jump but the last under the Twin Spires as the 1-2 chalk. He'll remove blinkers for the first time here. “He's really moved forward in his training when we removed the blinkers,” said De Paz, owner Sagamore Farm's private trainer. “We wanted to get him to slow down a little bit, and finish up at the end of his works. Honestly, he's been training better than he was before with the blinkers. He's definitely been more focused in his works without them.” Trainer Todd Pletcher has sent many of his juveniles to Monmouth for their debuts this year, including last month's GIII Schuylerville S. heroine Sweet Loretta (Tapit). Calumet Farm's Sonic Mule (Distorted Humor) was a 3 1/4-length debut graduate at the Oceanport oval July 15. Tip Tap Tapizar (Tapizar) was a clear-cut first-up winner at Churchill June 11, and settled for third in the Bashford Manor–nine lengths behind Recruiting Ready.
